Wolfpoints

Gaining Points

  • Signing up for, turning up on time and staying until the end of a raid: 1 point.

Losing Points

  • Points are currently only lost on a NEED bid, although infractions against the raid may cause the raid leader to penalise you by docking points.

Spending Points

  • The raid leader / loot master will ask for NEED bids from the raid. These will be whispered to the loot master.
    • If there were NEED bids then the bidder with the most points will receive the item and their score will be set to zero.
    • If there are no NEED bids then the item goes to a GREED, and is rolled for. A roll costs no points.
    • If there is only 1 NEED bid you still pay with all your points.
  • You must have at least one point in order to make a NEED bid.

Notes

  • New players start on 0 points.
  • BOP recipes are given to those who can make best use of them.
  • If no one bids need or greed, it may go down to a standard roll for onspec items, then an offspec/pvp/alt roll, and then finally into a disenchant.

Ethos

The Wolf Pack DKP system (Wolfpoints) is designed to form a queue to fairly distribute items at the time when there is most contention (while the boss is still difficult to down). Raiders are rewarded for time spent raiding.

As the system is designed as a queue, whenever a player buys an item they get reset to the bottom of the queue. This will occur in the form of a NEED Bid resulting in all points being spent. This type of bid should be made where the upgrade will result in a significant increase in effectiveness for the character.

Should no need bids be made, the bids are opened up to onspec greed rolls. Should no onspec greed rolls, it's opened up for offspec/pvp/alt (where applicable) greed rolls. Finally, an item that is unwanted is disenchanted.

As there will be large quantities of points leaving the system it should be resilient against inflation, and fewer items are disenchanted than previous.

Frequent raiders will always be in a strong position as they will most often be first in the queue, however they can not gain such a strong position that they can retain a place at the top of the queue and always out bid other players. New players will start at the bottom of the queue but should relatively quickly attain a position where they can receive the more desirable items.

FAQ

  • Can I still NEED if I'm on 0 points?

No, 'fraid not. You can still greed though, so if no one else wants it, it's yours!

  • What happens about points if the raid doesn't go ahead when phpraid says it's scheduled?

There won't be any raids off schedule that use points.

  • Wah, you went on a raid that was a replacement (Kara instead of Gruul), but much later! I want points!

No points for 10 mans (they are always off schedule) and since there won't be any off schedule 25 man raids … you don't get any!

  • The system sucks. Change it.

Although not really a question, if you dislike the way things are working, we will need a bit more than just “it sucks”! Tell us why it sucks and how you feel it could be improved (I'm sorry to say that distributing loot to you first and everyone else later is not an improvement!)

  • What happens if I'm the only bid? Surely I shouldn't lose any points?

Because NEED bids are requested first and distributed based on that, we don't know if anyone else would have greeded, so you still lose your points.

  • Why should I lose any points?! No one else wanted it!!

See above; you cannot make that assertion.

  • It takes so long to save for anything, why don't you use fixed buying costs?

Wolfpoints aren't really a currency, they're a queue, so you don't “buy” something so much as “drop down in the queue”.
